I have a love for music. And an even greater love for musical instruments. A few different instruments were given a try during my younger years.
My favorite instrument is the piano. While I am not proficient on the instrument, I do still love sitting down at mine to play a couple of my favorite pieces. The "Phantom of the Opera" Songbook typically sits open from the last time I played. You would think since I have a piano in my home I'd make use of it more frequently but life happens. Tomorrow is another day.
I also have a deep love for the violin. It's one of the instruments I gave a try during those younger years.

My pursuit to learn the violin did not last long. Since my mother played the piano, and rather well I might add, maybe it made more sense to steer us in that direction. I have no regrets. I'm grateful for the ability to play even if not so great.
As much as I love the piano, if I had the opportunity (and the patience) to learn how to play the violin again it would be heavenly. The violin makes such a heavenly sound.

We have a violinist on the worship team at my church. She does not play every Sunday but when she does play my heart beats a little faster with excitement to hear the beautiful sound made the moment her bow touches the strings. What a joyful noise to make unto the Lord (Psalm 100:1).
Now if I could learn how to sing that would be cool too. I sense an urge to join the choir. I'm praying for bravery to give it a try. Apparently being great isn't required.
If you could learn to do anything, what would it be?
I would learn basic photography. For my Joy Journal, I take hundreds of pictures. And they're fine for how I use them, and I use just my phone, but I'd like to do a better job. Since my spatial ability is low, maybe lessons would help. I'd also like to take more candid shots of family and people I love.

DeleteWell, this is a tough one! I'm trying to think of something I want to learn how to do and I'm stumped! (I guess that means I'm content, right? LOL) But, I would like to know how to pronounce French. I don't have a desire to learn the language, only learn how to pronounce the words so I could read menus at French restaurants! :-) I know...it's a big goal! But, your post has me thinking about it this morning... Like you, I learned how to play the piano as a child. In fact, I took many years of lessons, but I never felt that I excelled at it. Singing and being in the choir was much more fun for me. I think you'd have a great time in the church choir! Remember, you only have to make a joyful "noise"! LOL Love you, Joan

I have said before I considered going to back to Guatemala I'd love to know basic Spanish to make it a little bit easier to communicate. Let's join the choir together!!! DeleteI think learning an instrument would be at the top of my list. Piano or harp. A harp would fit in my house. A piano, not so much, lol!

ReplyDeleteIf I could learn anything, I would learn multiple languages. And then I would learn how to cook well.
I'm trying to model a life of learning to my girls, since I home educate them. So currently I'm learning the art of photography and we'll be studying Spanish together this school year. I'm also slowly learning how to play in alto clef (which is what is required for viola).
I probably should add cooking to my list but honestly I have no desire. Good thing the men in my family like to cook. Not that I have regrets but knowing what I know now there are things I would have done differently with how I raised my children. But I am grateful for how it's never too late to model certain behaviors we'd like our children to learn from. DeleteLearning to play piano is something I want to do in the coming year. As a singer in the house of prayer, I imagine sitting at the piano, when no one is in the room, singing back to the Lord and writing songs.

DeleteI've always wanted to learn to play the piano. My parents didn't have a piano and as a preacher's family there wasn't any money for extra lessons for anything. Not to mention that we were members of an acappella church that took that tradition very seriously. The preacher's daughter learning to play piano would not have been seen very favorably!! :-) I'd also like to learn more about photography...love, love, love to take pictures and love editing them but know I could do a better job. And finally, I really want to learn sign language. I know enough to get by but would love to be able to do some interpreting. Great question, Beth! ;-)

I'm continually fascinated how musicians of this two instruments can have their hands be doing different things simultaneously! I have a difficult time doing that! Great question, Beth! DeleteIf I could learn anything, it would be how to draw and paint. I so envy people who can sit and look at a beautiful landscape and then capture it on their canvas. Or people that can draw or paint faces - that amazes me. How can they capture a person's personality on a two-dimensional thing, and make it come alive?
